The Fund for Sustainable Energy in Africa officially made a commitment at a signing ceremony that took place in Paris on 18 July 2025 to finance the Dédougou solar project to the tune of 6 million.

The Dédougou solar energy project is part of the African Development Bank's Desert to Power Initiative, which aims to make the Sahel region the largest solar energy area in the world. It is among the priority projects according to Burkina Faso's Desert to Power national road map. The financing consists of a senior concession loan of 2.5 million euros and a repayable grant of 3.5 million euros, complemented by a package of senior and subordinated loans from the Netherlands Society for Entrepreneurship Development (FMO

According to Daniel Schroth, director of renewable energies and energy efficiency at the African Development Bank, “the Dédougou solar photovoltaic project marks an important milestone for Burkina Faso and the entire Sahel region.
