On Monday, September 26, 2022, a workshop was held in Abidjan to validate the national reports of the research study on money laundering, terrorist financing and maritime crime. The objective of this workshop is to allow the capitalization of the preliminary conclusions of the reports, which will be the subject of a consolidated regional report.

The national reports that will be the subject of a consolidated regional report are part of the implementation of the European Union's strategy for the Gulf of Guinea, a program called : "Support to Integrated Maritime Security in West Africa" (SWAIMS). In addition to increasing the capacity of security and non-security actors in the preventive and repressive fight against maritime crime, this workshop aims above all to optimize the maritime economy of ECOWAS.

It also aims to recommend concrete actions to disrupt the financial circuits of maritime crime and finally dispossess criminals of the proceeds of their criminal activities. In addition, from September 22 to October 12, 2022, validation workshops are organized by GIABA in collaboration with the SWAIMS program technical assistance team in Bissau, Abidjan, Accra, Lome, Cotonou and Abuja respectively.
