The Ethiopian Minister's Office announced on Friday, January 20, 2023 that the country's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has appointed Mamo Mihretu to head the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE).

Ethiopia is in the midst of implementing reforms to regulate price increases. Indeed, the authorities have announced a change at the head of the Central Bank. Mihretu is a member of the Prime Minister's Office as a political advisor. He is the managing director of Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH) which has been a public investment company since February 2022. He succeeds Yinager Dessie as governor of the NBE. Mihretu is appointed in a difficult context for the Ethiopian economy.
