Conflict: Ukrainian president urges G20 to unite to end Russia's war

The most important gathering of world leaders since the start of the pandemic has opened in the tropical setting of the Indonesian island of Bali. Russian President Vladimir Putin is largely absent from this meeting, which comes after almost nine months of a deadly war with serious economic consequences for the planet and the looming nuclear threat.

On the occasion, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged G20 leaders to overcome their divisions to end the “destructive” war led by Russia, against which Westerners are trying to increase pressure. The invasion of Ukraine is not on the official agenda of the G20 but dominates the meeting, as it worries and also deepens the divisions between Westerners supporting Kiev and other countries, especially China, which refuse to condemn Moscow.

2024 American presidential election: Trump running for a third time?

Donald Trump is about to return to the arena. He is expected to announce his candidacy for the 2024 American presidential election on Tuesday, ignoring calls from part of his camp to withdraw from the game after the poor performances of his foals in the midterm elections.

The Republican billionaire promised a “very big announcement” from his luxurious home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, at 21:00 local time (02:00 GMT Wednesday) -- the content of which no longer really arouses suspense but which should nevertheless delight his millions of supporters. His adviser Jason Miller promised a “very professional, very careful” statement, during which the former president will be surrounded by a large group of activists “waving signs.”

A Republican candidate backed by Donald Trump, Kari Lake, failed to take the Arizona governor's seat on Monday, according to media reports, another high-profile setback for the former president.

Artemis 1 mission: NASA is trying to launch its new rocket to the Moon

For a third time, NASA is trying to launch its new mega-rocket as part of the Artemis 1 mission. The operation is scheduled for the night of Tuesday to Wednesday from Florida, and this time all the lights seem to be green to finally launch the major American program to return to the Moon.

The first flight of the SLS rocket, the most powerful in the world, is scheduled for Wednesday at 1:04am local time (06:04 GMT), with a possible two-hour window of fire. The weather promises to be cooperative, with a 90% chance of favourable weather.

"Our time is coming, and we hope it's Wednesday,” Mission Manager Mike Sarafin said Monday evening. He praised the “perseverance” of his teams, who had to bounce back after two failed take-off attempts this summer, and then two hurricanes.

World Cup 2022: J-5, the big ones start landing in Qatar

With only a few days to prepare for their first match, the 32 selections will have little time to acclimatize to the heat or to their temporary living environment in the Qatar desert.

With five days to go until the 2022 World Cup kicks off Sunday, will the controversy survive the arrival in Qatar of the main countries, especially European ones, such as England, the Netherlands and Denmark on Tuesday?

And in the tense extra-sporting context of this World Cup, whether it's about human rights, discrimination against LGBTQ+ people or environmental issues, every speech or every action will be scrutinized.

IN SHORT

In a statement from Downing Street, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced on Tuesday the construction of five additional war frigates “in the face of the growing Russian threat.”
