During an information and awareness workshop in Lomé on Friday, November 4, 2022, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) published the scorecard counting for the year 2023. This map showed that Togo is ranked 6th in Africa with a validation of 14 indicators out of 20.

Each year, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) publishes a scorecard of the countries participating in the competitive selection process for the various development programs. Indeed, these scores allow competing countries to be eligible for the Threshold or Compact programs. The meeting allowed us to reflect on the perspectives of this program and how to improve performance, in order to validate the remaining indicators in the years to come.

Furthermore, when it comes to validating scores, each member country must be examined in three categories of indicators. These are “investment in human capital”, “economic freedom” and “good governance.” Togo has thus validated 14 indications. In the category of “Investment in human capital”, two indicators were validated, including expenditure on primary education and the rate of completion of primary education for girls. In the category of “Economic Freedom”, inflation, the quality of regulation, trade policy, respect for gender equity in the economy, land law, access to credit, and employment opportunities. Then finally the “Good Governance” category, where he validated civil liberties, the control of corruption, the efficiency of public authorities, the rule of law and freedom of information. As a result, Stanislas Baba, national coordinator of the MCC-Togo Unit, announced that the 2023 scorecard will see the introduction of a new indicator this year: “job opportunities”. The latter, which falls under the “economic freedom” category, replaces the “Business creation” indicator.
