The French government, through the French Development Agency (AFD), has just announced support of €60 million for renewable energy projects in Nigeria. In the country, 80 million people do not have access to electricity.

14 GW of additional energy, representing an investment of approximately €8.5 billion will be needed to fill the energy gap in Nigeria. Thus, the French Development Agency (AFD) is releasing support of €60 million which will be allocated to renewable energy players in the country through Access Bank and United Bank for Africa (UBA). Access Bank project member Chukwudumije Igwe made the announcement at the Sustainable Use of Natural Resources and Energy Finance (SUNREF) investor conference in Nigeria. The program is a fund made available by AFD to support renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.
