The Italian energy group said on Friday that potential projects will focus on agriculture and rural development, food security and nutrition, as well as water and sanitation.

The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) signed an agreement in Maputo to promote the development of the private sector in the province of Cabo Delgado, in the north of Mozambique. This agreement provides for the launch of two projects aimed at promoting sustainable, inclusive and resilient development of the blue economy sector in the district of Ibo, an area considered strategic but characterized by numerous environmental, socio-economic and humanitarian challenges. One of the most emblematic projects of the AICS is the Sustainable and Integrated Development of Marine and Coastal Resources, approved in 2024 and with a budget of 3.5 million euros, which will be implemented in Cabo Delgado, in parallel with the Italian Eni project aimed at promoting natural and cultural heritage, through the creation of an eco-museum and environmental awareness campaigns among local communities.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the director of Aics Maputo, Paul Sertoli, assured that the Italian agency is intensifying its collaboration with the Italian and Mozambican private sectors in the search for innovative and sustainable solutions and in the valorization of corporate know-how and Made in Italy. “The collaboration between AICS and Eni in Mozambique follows a consolidated path, characterized by periodic meetings in which we worked side by side to promote the sustainable development of the country and define common priorities,” said the director. For Sertoli, the agreement represents an important step and strengthens the structure of the institutional partnership in accordance with the Italian legal framework, which establishes the general standards of international development cooperation and formally recognizes private companies as key players in Italian cooperation
