The vice president of Nigeria's sovereign wealth fund, Kashim Shettima announced on 19 March, during the signing of the joint venture, that his institution plans to build a 20 MW hybrid solar power plant in partnership with a local company.

Nigeria's sovereign wealth fund and a local company are thinking about developing the country's first hybrid solar-hydroelectric networked project. Indeed, according to Shettima, the 20 MW plant is part of a 300 MW program that will be developed in the concession area of NSP's 600 megawatt hydroelectric power plant in Shiroro, in the State of Niger. The International Energy Agency (IEA) indicates that more than 77% of Nigeria's electricity mix is based on natural gas. Hydroelectricity accounts for 22% and solar for about 0.1%
