With the aim of supporting the country's growth and putting it on a path of more sustainable development in the years to come, Eritrea and the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group are committed s to strengthen their partnership.

The ADB published a statement last Friday according to which the decision on strengthening the partnership was taken during the meeting between the Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki and the President of the Banque africaine de développement Akinwumi Adesina in the Eritrean capital Asmara. The President of Eritrea praised the ADB for its strategic role in improving the lives of the Eritrean people. According to the latter, the country has identified the African Development Bank Group as the partner of choice to stimulate rapid socio-economic development and move its economy “from subsistence to industrialization.” The ADB Board of Directors approved $49.92 million in financing for the construction of a 30 megawatt solar photovoltaic power plant in Dekemhare last April. This is a project considered to be the bank's largest investment in the country and will have a transformative impact on improving access to energy in Eritrea
