Law No. 2020-38 of January 3, 2023 establishing the regime of special economic zones in the Republic of Benin, voted on December 8, 2022 by the National Assembly, 8th legislature, was promulgated on Monday, January 23, 2023.

The law regulating the creation, promotion, exploitation, administration, maintenance and development of special economic zones in Benin has been promulgated. Indeed, in Special Economic Zones, activities such as industrial production; agri-food or agro-industrial; assembly activities of major or strategic interest to the national economy; logistics, warehousing and infrastructure development for industry or trade for the benefit of international distribution hubs or companies established in the special economic zone for export exclusively and commercial or service activities designed to facilitate the main production activity are now authorized.

Investors on their side enjoy huge benefits. These are two regimes, export (type 1) and promotion of intra-Community trade (type 2). They both allow promoters to benefit from the competitiveness gains offered by the economic ecosystem and value chains created within the special economic zone.
