The managing director of the Société de gestion et d'intermediation Image Finances Internationales (SGI-IFI), Issa Malgoubri, announced on August 2, 2025 that Burkina Faso is preparing to issue for the first time a sukuk, i.e. a financial loan that respects financial principles Islamic.

The project led by the SGI-IFI aims to mobilize new funding for the Burkinabe State while respecting sharia rules. This Sukuk is designed to be transparent, legal and adapted to the needs of the local market. Unlike traditional bonds, Sukuks do not generate interest. They are based on sharing profits and losses. This method of financing is mainly used in Muslim countries, but is beginning to develop elsewhere.

The transaction is being implemented under the supervision of the UMOA Financial Markets Authority (AMF-UMOA). It involves several experts: lawyers, religious advisers, financial specialists and technical partners. The SGI-IFI calls on institutional actors to join this initiative, which represents an evolution in the country's financing strategy
