After several months of hearing before the Court of First Instance in Abidjan-Plateau, the verdict came on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in the trial of Souleymane Koné Kamaraté, better known as Soul To Soul. The vice-president of the GPS Movement (Generations & Peoples Solidaires (GPS), led by Guillaume Soro, was sentenced to five years in prison without a warrant of

detention.

Soul To Soul was tried for “concealing embezzlement of public funds” and “money laundering”, in the case relating to the residence of Marcory Residential, which Guillaume Soro occupied when he was President of the National Assembly. According to the prosecution, the acquisition and management of this residence involved financial flows considered irregular and

unjustified.

This conviction comes after several months of proceedings, marked by tense debates on the real motives of the judicial action, some seeing it as a political settling of scores in a context of persistent tensions between the authorities and former associates of Guillaume Soro.

It should be noted that in June 2021, Souleymane Kamagaté had already been sentenced to twenty years in prison for “conspiracy” and “attempting to attack State authority”, along with other figures from the Soro galaxy.
