As for the budget deficit, including the grant commitment base, it has deteriorated sharply.
Budget revenues and grants rebounded by 4.1% while the WAEMU budget deficit, including grant commitments, fell to 5.7% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2020.
The budget deficit of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), including grants, amounted to 5,220.5 billion. According to the Bceao, this situation calls into question the efforts previously undertaken by the States to reduce the deficit within the Community standard of no more than 3.0%.
The Central Bank also indicates that budget revenues and grants amounted to 16,131.7 billion CFA francs in 2020, a slight increase of 629.0 billion CFA francs or 4.1% compared to the previous year.
This increase is mainly due to grants, which recorded an increase of 956.4 billion CFA francs or 60.4%, the impact of which was mitigated by the decline in budget revenues of 327.4 billion CFA francs or 2.4%.
