The President of the Commission of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), Abdoulaye Diop on a working visit to Benin was received in audience by President Patrice Talon, yesterday Thursday, June 10, 2021. He was accompanied by a delegation from the Committee. Romuald Wadagni and Aurelien Agbénonci respectively Minister of State in charge of Economy and Finance and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the WAEMU Resident Representative in Benin, Yawovi Batchassi and Jonas AliouGbian, WAEMU Commissioner also took part in exchanges on economic and security issues in the sub-region.
"The purpose of my visit is to thank the President after my appointment as head of the Commission for this mark of confidence and to renew the Commission's readiness to take charge of the orientations and opinions of the Heads of State," said the President of the Commission of economic union and my West African étaire (UEMOA), Abdoulaye Diop at the end of his hearing. According to him, President Patrice Talon remains an active player in the development of WAEMU.
In turn, President Patrice Talon insisted on the subjects they debated. "...We discussed the issues of the hour including security issues, we know everything that is happening in the West African sub-region at the WAEMU level in general. It is true that security issues are becoming more frequent in a number of countries, but all countries are concerned. No country is potentially immune to these difficulties. We have widely debated and discussed these issues to see what could be done in this area and help Member States to better cope with this situation," said the Beninese Head of State. Beyond that, the post-Covid-19 economic recovery in the WAEMU has nevertheless caught the attention of the Head of State and the President of the Commission.
