On Sunday, ^February 1, 2026, the Bank Central Egypt (BCE) has announced the official launch of the service Accepting contactless electronic payments via devices smart phones (smartphones and tablets) using SoftPOS applications, according to a statement from the Council of Ministers.

The electronic payment acceptance service contactless allows the use of mobile phones at retailers, having downloaded the application, capable of accepting contactless cards regardless of their shape.

SoftPOS (Software Point of Sale) technology is an innovation that transforms any mobile device, smartphone or tablet into an electronic payment terminal (POS).

The Central Bank had launched this service in phase experimental in recent years with a transaction ceiling set at 600 Egyptian pounds.

According to the governor of the BCE Hassan Abdalla, “this new service is a reflection of the Bank's efforts. power plant aimed at preparing the infrastructure necessary for the expansion of electronic payment systems”.
