The finance and economic ministers of Egypt, Ghana, and Senegal called for a permanent seat for the African Union (AU) within the G20. The aim of this request is to make the continent's voice better heard in this global governance body.

In a letter cited by Bloomberg, the finance and economic ministers of Egypt, Ghana, and Senegal wrote to the finance ministers and governors of the governors central banks of the G20 to have a permanent seat at the AU in this global body.

These authorities explained the need to give them a permanent place within the institution. “Africa's presence as a permanent member through the African Union will strengthen the G20. Increasing the continent's representation in the G20 deliberations will allow for continuity and more responsive engagement,” they stressed. It should be recalled that, so far, South Africa has been the only permanent African member of the G20.
