West African leaders signed an "additional act" supposed to ensure a better representation of States within the institutions of the organization. The objective is to stabilize the governance of WAEMU bodies and put an end to chapel disputes.

From May 2021, the presidency of the WAEMU Commission will now return to Senegal. The management of the Regional Council for Public Savings and Financial Markets (CREPMF), which becomes the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), will be entrusted to Togo. Benin, for its part, will retain control of the West African Development Bank (BOAD), alongside Mali, which held the vice-presidency. In addition, there is the creation of a second vice-presidency of BOAD, which will be allocated to Guinea-Bissau.

Côte d'Ivoire retains the leadership of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO). Burkina Faso and Niger, for their part, retain the functions of vice-governors. This decision of the Heads of State is intended to ensure the regular functioning of the Union's bodies and to ensure that each State is definitively represented in the governing bodies.
