Transactions via e-money accounts in the WAEMU zone recorded a decrease in volume and value in the first half of 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
 
According to the Semi-Annual Monitoring Report of Payment Means and Services at the end of June 2020 of the Directorate-General for Operations and Financial Inclusion of the Central Bank of West African States, intra-regional transfers were down while receipts of international funds on e-money accounts were up. The health crisis has led to a slowdown in economic activities in the countries of the Union. The volume of transactions via electronic money accounts stood at 1.16 billion for a value of 11,920.08 billion CFA francs from January to the end of June 2020 in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU).
