The delegation of the Council of Local Authorities of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (CCT-UEMOA) held a working session with Abdoulaye Diop, the President of the WAEMU Commission on Wednesday, August 4, 2021. Several issues of common interest were discussed on occasion.

Created in 2011 by the WAEMU Conference of Heads of State and Government, with a view to better involving local authorities in the integration process in order to meet the challenges of globalization, the WAEMU Council of Territorial Communities (CCT-UEMOA) continues to work for better community development. It is within the framework of this mission that the delegation of the CCT-UEMOA led by its President François-Albert Amichia, was received by the President of the WAEMU Commission, Abdoulaye Diop, on August 4. On the occasion, it was discussed for the Chairman of the CTC to present the activities of the body of which he is President. In particular, he stressed financial decentralization, cross-border cooperation, peace and security and capacity building, important points of their roadmap.

Seizing the opportunity, he requested the Commission's support for the renewal of the bodies of the Consultative Body of the Union, with the holding of an elective general assembly. It is then that the President of the WAEMU Commission will speak, in the presence of Commissioner Jonas Gbian. Welcoming this working session, President Abdoulaye Diop reassured the CTC of the continued support of the Executive Body of the Union. "Local authorities are local institutions that help to establish development, they must be supported," he said. It should be noted that in addition to the President of the CCT-UEMOA, the delegation also included the Presidents of the Associations of Local Authorities, Mayors and customary and traditional leaders of the community space.
