The bridge between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin has collapsed. This is the Chakanda International Bridge, a local government area of Baruten in Kwara State.

The bridge collapsed following a heavy downpour that started at midnight on Sunday and continued until Monday. The collapsed bridge that was built in 2010 under the administration of the former governor of Kwara State, Bukola Saraki, could no longer hold the volume of water that flooded it during the downpour. Socio-economic activities between the two countries along this border have been temporarily halted.

In response, the Federal Construction Supervisor overseeing Kwara in north-central Nigeria, engineer Kayode Ibrahim assured residents that a solution immediate would be provided.
