The Chinese band Kunming Chuan Jin Nuo Chemical (CJN) signed an agreement with El Sewedy Industrial Development to build in Egypt an integrated chemical complex dedicated to products derived from phosphate. The announcement was made last week by the Egyptian authorities.

The agreement signed with a Chinese manufacturer marks a a new stage in an industrialization strategy that is already well under way. A Through this agreement, Cairo seeks to accelerate the rise in the range of its mining sector and to strengthen its role in global value chains, at a time when the demand for strategic battery materials is increasing.

The project, which will require an investment of one billion dollars, will be located in the Suez Canal economic zone (SCZONE) and deployed in three phases between 2026 and 2034. Cadence of development The complex will be installed on a 905,000 m² site in zone Sokhna industrial plant.

Information provided at the time of signing of the agreement mention that the first phase will focus on acid production phosphoric acid and fertilizers such as DAP and TSP, with an annual capacity of 300,000 tons for each product. It is planned between 2026 and 2028.

The second phase should be operational in 2031. It will allow you to hear the operation with phosphate chemicals of high purity, including purified phosphoric acid (PPA) and potassium monophosphate (MKP).

The third phase will focus on materials used in batteries for electric vehicles, in particular the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and lithium dihydrogen phosphate from 2032.

The final component of the project focuses on a center specialized in research and development in chemical technologies based of phosphate. The center should be launched at the same time as the first phase, and is supposed to promote technology transfer while strengthening capabilities of Egypt in the field of chemical manufacturing in high added value.
