Participants at the conference organized at the Africa Green Economy Summit held in the South African city of Cape Town (1470 km from Pretoria) announced that Africa has renewable resource potential that far exceeds its needs & acute; energetics.

The speakers indicated during their discussion at the Summit that Africa's solar PV has a potential of nearly 8,000 gigawatts (GW). They highlighted a report published by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the African Development Bank (AfDB). Indeed, they estimated that the continent's solar photovoltaic potential is 100 times greater than its needs and this is in addition to the vast potential of hydroelectricity estimated at 1,753 GW, wind energy (461 GW), in addition to geothermal energy and modern bioenergy.

According to John Roome, a sustainable development expert at the World Bank (WB), developing the green economy is the growth path for the future in Africa.
