The Malian authorities officially inaugurated, the Saturday, January 31 in Bamako, a Tier III data center, on the sidelines of the 3, serif">è edition of the Week of Digital from Mali. Presented as a strategic infrastructure, this installation marks a key step in the country's desire to strengthen its digital sovereignty, by promoting the local hosting of public data and sensitive, hitherto mostly stored abroad.

“This achievement is a decisive step towards the preservation and security of national data, a guarantee of sovereignty digital technology and technological autonomy”, declared the Minister of Communication, the Digital Economy and the Modernization of the Administration, Alhamdou Ag Ilyène, during the inauguration ceremony.

Complying with the most demanding international standards, the new data center is Tier III certified, a level that guarantees a 99.982% service availability. This performance is based on a complete redundancy of critical equipment, a power supply highly secure and guaranteed continuity of service even during maintenance operations. The infrastructure is intended to host the electronic administration platforms, strategic databases of the State, as well as, eventually, digital services for the sector private.

Beyond the technical aspect, the project is part of a broader strategy aimed at reducing Mali's dependence on foreign digital infrastructures and cloud solutions extraterritorial. The authorities indicated that a gradual repatriation of Data currently hosted outside the country is being considered, in particular those from programs to dematerialize public services. The objective is to improve information security, to optimize the performance of digital services and to strengthen the State's regulatory control over its data.

The inauguration of this data center takes place in a regional context marked by an increase in investments digital within the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). Burkina Faso has recently put next-generation digital infrastructures into service, while Niger has announced its intention to soon acquire high-capacity data centers.
