These figures were unveiled during President Adama
Barrow's State of the Nation Address (SoNA).
The government highlighted the success of strengthened legal frameworks and nationwide surveillance efforts to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing. According to Adama Barrow, the fight against illicit fishing has led to a significant increase in arrests and prosecutions, thereby strengthening the sustainable management of marine resources. He also emphasized the significant progress made in water access and management. His government drilled 110 solar-powered water supply systems, 68 of which already serve 142 villages, providing potable water to approximately 82,896 people. The remaining 42 projects are expected to be completed by the end of the year. Additionally, over 300 domestic and public latrines have been built in rural and riverside communities to prevent water pollution.
He added that agriculture, a pillar of the economy, continues to contribute over 22% to the GDP and provides livelihoods for most Gambian households.
