United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) announced major changes in its Executive Council, following the completion of the terms of office of four long-serving Executive Directors.

UBA strengthens its management team and announces key appointments to the Executive Council as well as retirements, effective on January 1, 2026. The new managers add up to more than 70 years of experience. These strategic appointments largely underline the institution's commitment to innovation and customer experience and continental leadership in financial services.

Retirements concern the Director Deputy General, Mr. Muyiwa Akinyemi, as well as the Executive Directors Ms. Abiola Bawuah, Mr. Alex Alozie and Ms. Sola Yomi-Ajayi.

Also, the Board approved pursuant to the UBA's solid succession and leadership development strategy, the appointment of three new Executive Directors — Mr. Emmanuel Lamptey, Mr. Tosin Adewuyi and Mr. Chidi Okpala — with effect from 1 January 2026, under subject to regulatory approval of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) .

Emmanuel Lamptey — Executive Director, Bank Digitale brings 25 years of multinational and transversal experience covering retail and corporate banking, asset management, brokerage in securities, pensions, insurance and microfinance, with operations in more than 30 African countries.

Graduated from Harvard Business School , Fellow of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (United Kingdom) and holder of a bachelor's degree in business from University from Cape Coast , in Ghana, he held several positions on boards of directors, executive and non-executive, in and out of the financial services sector.

Tosin Adewuyi — Executive Director, Bank d'Entreprise is a Fellow of the association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), holder a bachelor's degree (with honors) in economics and accounting from the University of Manchester, honorary member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and alumnus of Wharton School . With over 25 years of experience in Africa sub-Saharan — including more than 15 years in management positions, with functions approved by the FCA and the CBN in London and Lagos — Mr. Adewuyi a managed senior customer relationships with corporate clients and diversified sovereign. He built highly efficient teams, led business turnarounds and occupied strategic positions in the structured trade finance, investment banking and financing, debt capital markets, institutional coverage financial institutions and the corresponding bank.

Chidi Okpala — Executive Director, UBA Nigeria prior to his appointment, occupied the post of Executive Director in charge of payments, group integration and strategy at Heirs Holdings, where he was the leader of Group payment activities while overseeing investments strategies in technology and health. With extensive expertise in payments, financial innovation, business strategy and development of ecosystems, it has promoted the development of scalable platforms and the inter-company value creation across Africa. The latter has more than 20 years of banking experience is and holds a bachelor's degree in finance, an MBA in banking and finance, as well as a master's degree in leadership and strategy of the London Business School , where he is a Sloan Fellow.
