The central government allocated 63,500 crores of rupees to the program Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) Yojana for expenses for fiscal year 2026-27.

PM-Kisan is a central government program designed to support all landowning farming families in across the country. The government increased the benefit under the program Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) at 63,500 crore rupees for fiscal year 2026, an increase of 5.8% compared to 60,000 Crores of rupees budgeted in 2024-2025 allocated to farming families eligible. This program is a central initiative to support all farming families landowners in the country. The aid is granted without age limit, thus ensuring that small-scale farmers and marginal farmers can benefit from it.

The draft Union budget for 2025 should stimulate income and consumption in rural areas, which has slowed the growth of the economy as a whole.

Under the PM-KISAN program, 6,000 rupees are paid directly into the account of the beneficiaries every year, in three equal payments every four months.

The budget allocated to the Kisan Samman Nidhi program, which provides financial assistance to farmers, has been maintained at 63,500 crore rupees, as in the previous budget. The budget devoted to agricultural research and education has meanwhile declined by 4.8%, up from Rs 10,466.39 crore in the previous year to 9,967.4 crore rupees.

Ms Sitharaman announced a support of 350 crore rupees for agriculture with high added value, especially for coconut, cashew, sandalwood and other nuts.
