In an interview granted to ''Le Soleil'', on the sidelines of this event held in Cotonou, the Director General of Sonatel, Sékou Dramé comments on the formal notice sent to Sonatel by Artp for non-compliance with the regulations on portability.

In April 2021, Sonatel was given formal notice by Artp for "anti-competitive practices" (non-compliance with portability). In this regard, Sékou Dramé indicates that Sonatel attaches an extremely high price to compliance with laws and regulations in all the countries where it operates.
“What happened is that from February 2020, we started to receive a lot of complaints from customers who complained that they had undergone portability without having requested it. As this phenomenon has grown, we have opened up to the regulator. First, by a referral in February followed by others, and the regulator conducted an investigation and audited the implementation of the portability process among all operators. At the end of this mission, one of our competitors who was incriminated was given formal notice to stop these fraudulent portability practices. In this very thorough process of the regulator, it was noted, at Sonatel, the non-respect of certain devices since we had wished, to make this process fluid, to automate certain stages”, he explained.
He hints that the group immediately brought themselves into compliance. He is delighted that this extensive audit of the portability process has brought more rigor, so that the fraudulent practices for which a competitor has been put on notice cease. Portability is a mechanism that allows a customer, in full knowledge of the facts, to change operator while keeping his number.
