In order to strengthen health sovereignty of the continent and to reduce dependence on external financing, On Tuesday, the microbiologist, Lissa Kana invited African states to create a continental fund.

The creation of the continental fund is dedicated to research and innovation. “We need to have a fund for research and a regulatory framework enabling international donors to support African initiatives. To improve health, we need find our own ways,” said Lissa Kana. She was speaking during an intergenerational debate organized by Speak Up Africa on the theme: “Sustainable health sovereignty: what if science brought people together generations?” The activity is taking place within the framework of the Galien Africa Forum, opened on Monday in Dakar, on the theme: “Health sovereignty, a imperative for Africa.”

For the microbiologist, 83 % of funding devoted to research and development in Africa come from outside the continent, a situation that hampers its autonomy scientist.
