"I would like to make clarifications to say, first of all, that this report is not that of the ILO. I say this clearly and firmly. I also specify that the ILO does not produce national reports," said the director of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde, based in Dakar, Dramane Haïdara, in the show "Jury du dimanche", this November 15 on iRadio/iTv.
According to the head of ILO-Senegal, "their role is to support national statistical institutes, strengthen their capacities, equip them with tools so that they can be able to regularly produce national statistics".
"We tried to find out where this report came from, to no avail"
"And now it is these national statistics that we, as the ILO, take to make comparisons regionally and internationally. We were very surprised to see this report saying that it was the ILO report. The figures we have at our level, which we consider today in our studies concerning Senegal, are the figure of the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (Ansd) which speaks of 16% and which we use as the official unemployment rate of Senegal".
Thus, he will say, "it is this figure that we confirm, because we assist the ANSD in the collection and processing of this information".
What about the origin of this controversial report? Dramane Haïdara retorted: "We asked ourselves the same question and we tried to find out where he came from. And so far, we don't know."
