The Ghana Exim Bank is announcing a $10 million financial package to boost the yam industry in Ghana.

The yam industry is one of the main contributors to agricultural GDP, accounting for 15% of Ghana's revenue. To consolidate this expansion, Lawrence Agyinsam, Managing Director of Exim Bank announced an initiative to support yam production. According to him, this initiative aims to increase shipments of the tuber in order to consolidate the position of first world exporter that the country occupies since the end of its fiscal year 2021/2022, ahead of heavyweights in the sector such as Jamaica and the USA. It should be noted that Ghana is the world's second largest producer of yams behind Nigeria, with an average annual harvest of 8 million tons according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture.
