Senegal's industrial production fell by 22% in 2022. The Minister of Industrial Development and Small and Medium-Sized Industries, Moustapha Diop, mentioned a setback that calls into question the country's competitiveness in this area.

Defending his department's draft budget of 231,892,105,820 CFA francs in commitment authorizations and 12,305.096.820 CFA in payment appropriations, for the financial year 2023, on Friday before the deputies, Moustapha Diop announced that “industrial production fell by 22% in 2022”.

For him, “this drop did not call into question industrial competitiveness in the sub-region, because Senegal is ranked 2nd in the UEMOA region, behind Côte d'Ivoire, and 4th in ECOWAS, behind Nigeria, Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire respectively.” For its part, the Finance and Budgetary Control Committee of the National Assembly published a report according to which the departments of the Ministry in charge of Industrial Development issued seven approval decisions at the end of the third quarter of 2022, which decisions concern 23 companies for a total of 130 industrial products.
