Between 2018/2019 and 2019/2020, Sudan had a More than one million tons ahead of Senegal in production of peanuts. This gap has since melted like snow in the sun. This time, according to USDA, Senegal is on track for a harvest of 1.15 million tons during said campaign. While this level is not exceptional, it nevertheless marks a rebound compared to the reduced volume of 2024/2025 estimated at 800,000 tonnes and remains sufficient to supplant its rival.

This performance on crop size is a recognition for the second economy of the UEMOA which displayed in 2024/2025, a yield of around one ton per hectare, or 50% more than that of Sudan (0.69 t/ha) on an area of 780,000 hectares against 2.83 millions of hectares.

For the current campaign, the gap is expected to increase again dig for the benefit of Senegal with an expected productivity of 1.32 tonnes/ha in a context where on the Sudanese side, yields are expected to fall to 0.50 ton/ha.
