The disbursement of the first $200 million of the $600 million credit facility allocated under the Cocobod Productivity Enhancement Program has been made, MarketLine reports.

This program was signed last November in Johannesburg at the Africa Investment Forum by a consortium of banks and cooperation agencies including the Japan Cooperation Agency Jica, the Afarching Development Bank (BAD ), Development Bank of South Africa, Cassa Depositie Prestiti Spa (CDP), the London branch of the Crédit Suisse as well as the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.

This funding aims to improve quality, increase cocoa yields, in particular by renovating farms and improving irrigation systems. The funds are also to be used to increase the capacity of the warehouses that supply local processing plants.
