In his new book, Mounkaila Dia   studies the impact of technological innovation on the prospects for economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on further structural transformation in WAEMU countries, comparing EU companies with their counterparts in "emerging countries".

The author, who holds a Master's degree in Finance from the Higher Institute of Management and a Master's degree in Tax Law from the Cheikh Anta DIOP University in Dakar, uses an econometric model entitled "generalized structural equation" by estimating the impact of technological innovation for a better improvement. Improving business productivity after the COVID-19 pandemic while taking into account data asymmetry.

These results show that economic recovery could be fostered by prudent policies on access to finance that allow firms to invest in research and development (R&D) in order to reduce dependence on foreign technology and accelerate the structural transformation of WAEMU economies.

At the same time, the author points out that it is only in the WAEMU countries that the autonomous effect of the adoption of technological innovation is almost as strong as that of R&D with the combined effect thanks to external knowledge relating to foreign technologies.

Mounkaila Dia   is a PhD student at Cheikh Anta DIOP University in Dakar in the fields of regulatory economic law and has a wide experience in the financial sector and emerging markets of more than 12 years.
