Request green light to a bill strengthening counterterrorism and intelligence measures

The Senate dominated by the right-wing opposition adopted, on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, in first reading after the National Assembly, a bill strengthening "anti-terrorist" measures and intelligence, presented as "indispensable" by the government. The text, of which the senators have modified several articles, perpetuates measures inspired by the state of emergency. It was voted by 251 votes to 27, with 66 abstentions. Deputies and senators will try to agree on a common text. In case of failure, a new reading will be organized in both chambers, the Assembly having the last word. Announced in the wake of the attack on a police officer in Rambouillet (Yvelines) in April, this new bill in the anti-terrorist arsenal had been planned for a long time.
