Mali's transitional authorities confirmed the death Sunday of 42 Malian soldiers in an attack attributed to jihadists in the northeast of the country near the borders of Burkina Faso and Niger, an assault in which the army "neutralized 37 terrorists." A three-day national mourning was declared. The army "reacted vigorously to a complex and coordinated attack" in Tessit during which it had "42 dead and 22 wounded" in its ranks, also reporting "37 terrorists neutralizeds" and several of their equipment, including vehicles, "abandoned" during "several hours of fighting", according to this new report published by the government in a statement sent to AFP.
The government referred to an attack on Sunday "at around 15:00" GMT, carried out "probably (by) the Islamic State in the Great Sahara (EIGS)" and "characterized by the use of drones and other means of attack.e by the use of drones, explosives, booby-trapped vehicles as well as artillery fire", repeating information already announced Monday by the army.
Ukraine: deadly Russian bombings around the nuclear power plant of Zaporijjia

Washington: Iranian plan to assassinate former top US official
The U.S. justice system has revealed a plot led by a member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to assassinate John Bolton, a former White House national security adviser. The U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement that Shahram Poursafi, aka Mehdi Rezayi, 45, was charged in his absence for offering to pay $300,000 to individuals in the United States to kill John Bolton, who was also the U.S. ambassador to the UN.
The plot, apparently intended to avenge the death of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in January 2020 in a U.S. strike, was revealed to authorities by the person who was supposed to assassinate Mr. Bolton, whose identity has not been disclosed. Bolton, whose identity has not been revealed.
