The New York Stock Exchange closed lower yesterday, for the fourth session in a row, following the announcement of an acceleration in inflation. However, the major indexes closed above their session lows.
The inflation figures released on Wednesday reinforced recessionary fears that had already dampened the indices since the start of the week, while the scenario of a strong monetary round by the Fed seems increasingly likely.
This Thursday, the quarterly earnings season for American companies starts with publications by JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley, among others.
Asian equity markets changed in a contrasting manner on Thursday. The Hong Kong Stock Exchange's Hang Seng fell 0.2%, while the Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.1%. The Nikkei index gained 0.8% at the end of the session in Tokyo.

The euro fell against the dollar this morning but appreciated against the yen, like the greenback.
Oil prices are now accentuating their modest rebound of the previous day. Around 7:20am, the September North Sea Brent contract won 69 cents, at $100.26 per barrel. The August contract for mild mild crude oil (WTI) listed on Nymex rose 58 cents to 96.88 dollars per barrel. Recession fears and the risk of new Covid-related restrictions in China had caused the WTI price to fall by nearly 8% and that of Brent by over 7% on Tuesday.
