The Financial Intelligence Processing Unit (FWU) responded to this report with a rather convoluted statement. Faced with the report that places Morocco on its grey list of lax countries in the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism, the UTRF reacted.
The Unit led by Jawhar Nfissi said that "the process of mutual evaluation of its national anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism system based on the financial action task force's international standards reflected the Kingdom's efforts in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing. against financial crimes, particularly money laundering and the financing of terrorism, at the national and international levels."
For the UTRF, "this operation highlighted the tangible progress made by Morocco, at the level of the technical commitment relating to the adaptation of legislative and regulatory texts with international standards and at the level of strengthening the efficiency of the entire system".
However, the Unit is noted with shortcomings. " Morocco has proceeded, in the context of compliance with its international obligations and its involvement in the efforts made by the international community to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism, to the second phase of the process of mutual evaluation of its national system for combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism in accordance with in addition to the Financial Action Task Force's international standards revised in 2012," the statement reads.
