The Central Bank of Nigeria has announced the postponement of the launch of the country's digital currency, eNaira. For good reason, the financial institution evokes the events planned for the 61st anniversary of the country's independence. The postponement came a day after a company (ENaira Payment Solutions Limited) filed a lawsuit in the Federal High Court against the CBN over the name "eNaira". The company, through its lawyers, had warned the bank against using the name "eNaira". The statement signed by CBN spokesperson Osita Nwanisobi did not give a new date for the launch.
