Before suing the cryptocurrency platform in June, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) asked Coinbase to stop trading in all cryptocurrencies except bitcoin.

Coinbase has been accused by the SEC of operating illegally because it did not register as an exchange. Also, she invoked that Coinbase has traded at least 13 cryptoassets that are securities that should have been registered, including tokens such as Solana, Cardano, and Polygon. The SEC believes that its law enforcement division did not formally require “companies to de-list cryptoassets.”

The SEC believes that “during an investigation, staff may share their own perspectives on conduct that may raise issues for the commission under securities laws.”
