Central banks around the world have embarked on the digital currency race, whose goal is not necessarily to come first.

93% of the 86 central banks began experimenting with digital currency in 2022. A handful of countries have even already deployed their new currency. In the Bahamas, the Eastern Caribbean Monetary Union, Jamaica, and Nigeria, a central bank digital currency (MNBC) is already in circulation. Emerging countries have taken up the subject more zealously than developed countries, and most central banks are still in the exploratory phase.
