In its October 2020 Monthly Bulletin of Statistics, the Bceao mentioned banking operations in the WAEMU. According to the institution, at the level of the WAEMU interbank market, the average weekly volume of operations, all maturities combined, increased by 31.1% to 284.3 billion in October 2020.

The weighted average rate for these operations was 3.10%, compared with 3.04% the previous month. Under the one-week sub-fund, the average trading volume was 160.0 billion in October 2020,

after 113.1 billion a month earlier. The average interest rate on this window rose to 2.75% in October 2020, compared to 2.68% the previous month.

According to the Bceao, provisional data from the survey on bank conditions reveal a stability in lending rates during the month of October 2020. Indeed, excluding charges and taxes, the average borrowing rate calculated at Union level was 6.4%, almost stable compared to the previous month. As for the rate of return on customer deposits, it stood at 4.9% in October 2020, compared to 5.2% a month earlier.
