Mali did not escape international sanctions after the second coup. After the measures of ECOWAS and the African Union (AU), it is the turn of the World Bank to suspend its financial operations in the country. The World Bank announced it was suspending its financial operations in Mali following the coup d'état in late May, the second in less than a year. In a statement, the Bank said it had "temporarily paused disbursements of its operations in Mali while it closely monitors and assesses the situation." This announcement is the first to have an economic impact in a suffocated country.
This decision of the World Bank is reflected "in the non-processing of requests for disbursements received after May 24, and those received but not processed before May 24," said the press release of the Breton Woody administration, which is currently financing projects to the tune of $1.5 billion in Mali.
