The 23rd meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the Intergovernmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA) was launched on Saturday, May 22 in the presence of various personalities from the world of finance, justice, security and diplomats. Following the 35th plenary meeting of the Technical Commission of the Community institution, the GIABA Ministerial Committee met for the 23rd meeting. The Ministerial Committee examined and adopted, among others, the activity reports of the Director General, the Sub-Committee on the Revision of the GiABA Statutes, the reports of the Extraordinary Plenary of April 2021 and the 35th meeting of the Technical Commission. It also ruled on the Mutual Evaluation Report of the Second Cycle of the Republic of Benin, the Memorandum on the Programme to Improve the Effectiveness of GIABA initiated by the FATF: Involvement for Member States and Role of the Ministerial Committee as well as the report of the Meeting of the Committee e ministerial.

The Minister of Finance of the Republic of Ghana, Chairman of the Ministerial Committee, Kennet Ofori-Atta reiterated the committee's commitment to support GIABA and West African countries in the face of money laundering that weakens economies and its corollary of terrorist financing. GIABA Director General Kimelabalou Aba said that the processes and procedures of mutual evaluation and monitoring are aimed at assessing the implementation and effectiveness of laws, regulations or other measures required by the basic criteria.
