Fight against money laundering: Malta on the FATF 'grey list'

Prime Minister Robert Abela announced on Wednesday that Malta has been placed on "grey list" by the global anti-money laundering and terrorism watchdog, the Financial Action Task Force. The FATF's decision comes after years of criticism from the international community of Malta's political decisions, whether it was the sale of its national passports or the lack of legal measures against representatives mentioned in the Panama Papers case. Speaking at a press conference, Abela hinted that the decision was "unfair" and promised to press for reform plans to combat financial malfeasance.
