Three months after taking office at the head of the West African Development Bank (BOAD), Mr. Serge EKUE made a working visit to the BRVM headquarters on Monday, December 7, 2020, during which he rang the bell to mark the opening of the stock exchange day.
Welcoming his distinguished host, Dr. Edoh Kossi AMENOUNVE, Director General of the BRVM and the DC/BR, sent his warm congratulations to Mr. Serge EKUE on his appointment at the head of BOAD. He then praised the excellence of the existing cooperation between the two Central Structures (BRVM and DC/BR) of the Regional Financial Market and BOAD, which is a major player, as a shareholder of brVM and DC/BR, a reference issuer on the bond market and institutional investor. During this working visit, the President of BOAD opened the trading day by ringing the bell and was given some explanations on the functioning of the BRVM Trading Room.

During the discussions with the Management Committee of the BRVM and the DC/BR, topics of common interest were discussed with a view to the development of the WAEMU capital market. These include the structuring role that BOAD must continue to play on the bond market as a reference issuer, the development of securitisation for the refinancing of banks and companies, and a better valuation of assets under custody with the DC/BR through modern securities circulation techniques. Securities loans/borrowings, asset swaps, etc.) and finally, the promotion of instruments such as covered bonds, green or social bonds etc.

At the end of his visit, the President of BOAD said he was very happy to be "at home" at the BRVM, because he has spent most of his professional career on the capital markets, and to meet a renowned financial professional in the person of Dr. Edoh Kossi AMENOUNVE. He stressed the convergence of views between BOAD and BRVM for the development of capital markets in the WAEMU because of their crucial role in the long-term financing of States and the private sector for increased wealth creation within the WAEMU. As a reminder, Mr. Serge EKUE has been appointed head of the West African Development Bank (BOAD) since August 28, 2020.
