Imports of goods from Senegal fell more significantly (-143.1 billion CFA francs)
than that of exports of goods (-63.1 billion) in June 2019, announces the Directorate of
forecasting and economic studies (DPEE).
As a result of this situation, the country's trade deficit stood at 144.9 billion CFA francs.
in June 2019, according to the DPEE.
This deficit was thus reduced by 62.8 billion compared to the previous month, notes the DPEE in its Point
monthly business report for the month of June 2019.
It indicates that "the rate of coverage of imports by exports went from 45.6% to 46.4% on
the period, gaining 0.8 percentage points".
The publication specifies that exports of goods, valued at 128.3 billion in June 2019, have
recorded a drop of 33% (-63.1 billion). Their amount was 191.3 billion the previous month.
"This situation is attributable to food products (-24.3 billion), petroleum products (-10.6
billion), 'mineral and chemical fertilizers' (-7.3 billion), titanium (-5.9 billion) and non-monetary gold
(-5.6 billion)", she underlines.
On the other hand, zircon exports increased by two billion.
Over the first six months of 2019, exports of goods increased by 26.4% (+215.8
billion), compared to the same period of 2018.
Imports of goods fell from 419.5 billion in May to 276.4 billion in June 2019, "or
a contraction of 34.1% (-143.1 billion)".
This situation is "mainly attributable to petroleum products (-69.8 billion),
food (-13.4 billion), 'vehicles, transport equipment and automotive spare parts' (-9.1
billion) and 'machinery, appliances and motors' (-7.1 billion)".
Year-on-year, imports of goods fell by 17.5% (-58.8 billion) in June 2019.
Over the first six months of 2019, imports of goods increased by 85.5 billion,
compared to the same period in 2018, to stand at 1,983.4 billion.
