The Government of Benin wished to salute the great restraint shown by the Kingdom of Morocco, which made it possible, through rapid control of the situation, to avoid an escalation of tensions in El Guergarat.

In a press release published Tuesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the Government of Benin ensured that it was following with "great attention the situation of tension in the buffer zone of El Guergarat induced by frictions which interrupted traffic and caused acts detrimental to public order and the tranquility of the population”.

Through this press release, Benin praised "the pacifist posture adopted by the Kingdom of Morocco which has once again proven its commitment to peace and development in the region and in Africa".

Reiterating its support for Morocco, the Government of Benin also reaffirmed "its attachment to the political process, under the exclusive aegis of the United Nations, intended to find a political, pragmatic and lasting solution, on the basis of the relevant resolutions of the Security Council ".
