The Ministère de l'Environnement et du Développement durable, with the support
Technical commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS),
organizes from Tuesday to Friday in Jacqueville, a training workshop and setting up a pool of experts
on the development of projects for access to climate funds.
For the Director General of the Environment, Lavry Grah Nazaire the temperature increase observed in
global level, calls for a global response through the implementation of the Paris Agreement where the Côte
d'Ivoire has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 28% by 2030. "She needs
to mobilize resources and this workshop is a great opportunity to build bankable projects",
did he say.
The director of the fight against climate change, Eric Michel Assamoi explained that countries
Africans generally struggle to mobilize funds to better address the issue of
climate change. "It is in this context that this workshop is organized for the mastery of procedures
" he assured.
The representative of ECOWAS, Raoul Kouamé said that to date all the countries of the community
West Africa have ratified the Paris Agreement which for its implementation, needs funds whose difficulties
access remains an obstacle. "I hope that the experts will be able to boost the efforts already undertaken by the
Côte d'Ivoire to access these funds," he said.
The Paris Agreement is the first universal climate/global warming agreement. It follows on from the
negotiations held at the Paris Climate Conference (COP21) of the Framework Convention
of the United Nations on climate change. It was approved by all 195 delegations on
December 12, 2015 and came into force on November 4, 2016.
Following the ratification of this agreement, Côte d'Ivoire has resolutely committed to accessing the Green Fund for
climate or Green climate Fund (GCF). It was created in 2010 at the 16th Conference of the Parties to the
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Cancun, Mexico.
It aims to limit greenhouse gas emissions in developing countries and help countries
vulnerable to adapt to the adverse effects of climate change. By 2020, it envisages a
mobilize a hundred billion US dollars per year for the financing of projects related to
climate change.
