New York (awp/afp) - The euro rose a little against the dollar on Monday, in a market still focused on the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic but enthusiastically welcoming the good health of global stock markets.

Around 19:15 GMT (21:15 in Paris), the euro was up 0.14% against the greenback, at 1.1235 dollar.

"Wall Street's rebound from Friday's plunge is acting as a signal in favor of risk and as an excuse to drive the dollar down," said Joe Manimbo of Western Union.

Safe havens, such as the dollar, tend to decline when risk appetite is high and equity markets rise.

The single European currency was also buoyed by the surprise rebound (+0.9%) in the inflation rate in Germany in June, according to provisional figures from the Federal Statistical Office.

Analysts were expecting inflation to be stable at 0.65%.

However, "the acceleration of infections in some US states" continued to worry market players, said Kit Juckes, an analyst for Societe Generale.

The world, confronted since last December with the Covid-19 pandemic, crossed two symbolic thresholds on Sunday: more than half a million deaths and ten million cases.

In the United States, the contagion is progressing in 30 of the 50 American states, including the largest and most populous in the south and west of the country: California, Texas and Florida. And some had to take a break from the deconfinement process.

On the agenda this week, "the monthly U.S. jobs report (which) will be released on Thursday instead of Friday due to Independence Day (July 4)," said Hussein Sayed, an analyst for FXTM.

Investors will also be interested in the intervention of Jerome Powell, the head of the Federal Reserve, who will be questioned on Tuesday by US parliamentarians.
